The Challenge
The client desired a community of cabins in coastal Maine, requiring balancing efficient use of space and deep respect for the natural landscape and local materials. The challenge was to create multiple timber homes that felt personal and immersive—like secluded treehouses—while still functioning as a cohesive, accessible, and thoughtfully planned retreat. The site itself presented additional complexity, with varied terrain, forest density, and the need to preserve views, minimize environmental impact, and integrate shared community spaces.

Our Solution
Acadia Building Company approached the project through a design-build process, developing a collection of 17 custom timber frame homes elevated on posts to blend seamlessly with the surrounding environment. Each home was uniquely positioned to maximize privacy, views, and connection to nature, while maintaining a unified architectural vision. Special considerations—such as ADA-accessible designs, innovative structures like a suspended walking bridge, and strategically placed lots—ensured the community was both functional and distinctive, offering a modern, sustainable living experience rooted in craftsmanship.
